Free. No account. The file stays on your device.

Convert a PDF to a Word file you can edit. The converter reads the text layer of the PDF, rebuilds paragraphs and headings, keeps the pictures and writes a standard .docx that opens in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice.

The conversion runs on your own device, so a confidential contract or a scan of your ID never leaves your computer or phone. Scanned PDFs without a text layer can first go through the OCR tool.

How it works

  1. Tap Convert a PDF and pick File Conversions, then PDF to Word.
  2. Choose the PDF. The text is extracted and laid out as paragraphs.
  3. Download the .docx or open it in the built-in Word editor to keep working.

Why Document Reader

Questions

Will the layout look exactly like the PDF?

Text, headings, lists and pictures are kept in reading order. Complex multi-column layouts are simplified into flowing text, which is what you want when you need to edit.

Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?

Run OCR first: the OCR tool turns the scan into text, then convert the result to Word.

Is there a file size or page limit?

No. Large files just take a little longer because the work is done on your device.

Which Word versions open the result?

Any program that reads .docx: Word 2007 and later, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages.
